Tackle Football

GRJFA Tackle Football Program

Only Glen Rock residents in 1st through 8th grades are permitted to play on GRJFA Tackle Football teams due to TCYFL league rules. Practice begins for all GRJFA teams in August. The season kicks off on September and runs through early November. The levels of play in the GRJFA are Senior, Junior, Pee Wee and Mighty Mites. Travel is required at each level of play. Weight Restrictions apply to each level of play.

Within each level of play, except for the Mighty Mites, an A/B program is maintained to provide an appropriate playing environment for all skill levels. Every weekend, there will be an A game and B game at each level. All "A" games are played on one day and all "B" games are played on another day. An official schedule with days and times will be posted, but majority of "A" games are played on Saturday in the order of Pee Wee/Junior/Senior. "B" games are played on Sunday, usually starting at noon in the order of Mighty Mites/Pee Wee/Junior/Senior. The average time of a game is one hour and fifteen minutes.

The "A" Team is a competitive team. Team records and standings are maintained. Post season Playoffs are held and League Championships are determined for each level. Coaches are required to designate a certain number of players, based on the total number of players on their roster, as "A" players. These players are ineligible to participate in "B" games.

The "B" Team is a "semi-competitive" team. The "B" games are instructive in nature, but games are played competitively in order for players to gain experience and help prepare them for future "A" level games. No records or standings are kept and no championships or trophies are awarded. Developing sportsmanship and skills are the hallmark of our "B" programs.

All players are given a designation by their coaching staff of "A","B" or "A/B". If player is designated "A" or "B", they can only play and dress for their designated game. If player is designated "A/B", they are to dress for both A and B games. Players designated either "A" or "B" are not required to attend the game that they are not designated to play in.
